Cedar Court Dementia Care Home is located within the picturesque Bretby Park, near Swadlincote in south Derbyshire, and offers a high standard of care in a relaxed, tranquil and friendly environment.
Cedar Court is a characterful property, which has been renovated to a high standard. It is surrounded by glorious landscaped parkland with beautiful countryside views for residents to enjoy during outdoor walks. Located on the edge of the National Forest, close to the Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire borders, the home is ideal for motorway access and days out, giving the people that live here and their loved ones the best of both worlds.
The home specialises in the care and support of people living with different forms of dementia and other mental health conditions. Our staff are trained to provide person-centred dementia care and we follow Kitwood’s ‘Flower of Needs’ model of care. Staff are all kept up to date with the most relevant dementia care training.
Our home has many adaptations to support people with dementia, including a 1970s-style kitchen. These features enable those living here to continue everyday activities, like washing up, making sandwiches and folding laundry to provide opportunities for reminiscence, cognitive support and mental wellbeing.
We’ve paid special attention to the facilities on offer, including a corridor decorated as an old-fashioned high street for people to stroll down. Many other areas have been designed to stimulate interest and conversation and to help the people living here feel at ease.
Our sensory garden has been designed for people living with dementia. It has wind chimes and specially-chosen plants which rustle in the wind to excite the senses. We have taken care to plant colourful and fragrant flowers and shrubs and we encourage wildlife with bird feeders and nesting boxes. There are lots of places to sit and enjoy the garden as well as our very own beach. The people living here are particularly fond of feeling the sand between their toes.
There is wi-fi throughout the home, so your loved ones can keep in touch via video and phone calls.
Family members and friends are welcome to visit as and when they like. Drinks and snacks are always available, and we are happy to provide meals for visitors by prior arrangement.

I started off my career in the care industry as a domiciliary care worker almost 20 years ago before changing to work in residential care. This is where I found my passion for working with people with mental health difficulties and dementia. I have worked my way from care assistant to registered manager. I feel a sense of pride when I have helped someone achieve something, no matter how big or small this may be. The smile on residents faces mean so much. I have faced many challenges throughout my career but have always battled through to achieve the best outcomes for people, both staff and residents. I hope to aspire my staff to aim high and develop their career in the same way that I have. This is more than just a job to me.
We are more than a Nursing Home, we are a family unit. I have an amazing team to support me and together we can make such a difference to people’s lives.
